Four-month sleep regression

I don't want to speak too soon, but after three nights of multiple baby wakeup calls (waaaaah! or ooooooh! trust me, even cooing is not cute at some hours) I am thinking we have hit the dreaded four-month sleep regression. This is apparently a time when so much is going on in the baby's life developmentally that he just can't sleep through the night the way he used to.

Oh sure, now you're asleep.

I had heard of this "milestone" via my many hours lurking on BabyCenter. This is one thing I do while I breastfeed and pump sometimes. What I didn't learn on BC I learned this morning while Googling around, half asleep and cranky after getting up six times overnight. And it ain't good, people. The second site you get when you Google "four-month sleep regression" is askmoxie.com, which is a great site that can scare you very very much. So yes, this Googling led me to that site, which led me to this post on that site. I will let you check it out for yourself, but to sum up, the comments say:
  • the 4-month sleep regression is horrible.
  • you can try, but there may well be nothing you can do about it.
  • the 4-month sleep regression lasts until 7 months.
  • then things are cool until the 9-month sleep regression.
Seriously? I think I am extra vulnerable to desperation at this time due to the very, very little quality sleep I got last night, but I wanted to cry when I read this. But, I guess I just need to steel my mind as when I was pregnant, and had to try not to take everyone's birth/breastfeeding horror stories too much to heart. Everyone has their own experience. Repeat. Everyone has their own experience. I can't psych myself out before I even get three days into this thing, right? Even if it is going to be as bad as they all say.

Having said that, I would be interested in hearing your experience if you went through this, especially how long it lasted and if you did anything that helped.

Wow! The 4 month sleep regression lasts until 7 months and then you only get an 8 break before the 9 month sleep regression sets in? I think you need to develop your elbow. That way you can give Francisco a good strong nudge and tell him William needs him. Just a thought.

We had a totally different experience. V never slept through the night until we did sleep training at exactly 4 months. If W is starting to wake up, it is time to sleep train him, in my opinion. Suerte!
