Feliz Día del Pavo!
It's another Mexican Thanksgiving and everything seems to have come together! I have been gathering ingredients for the dinner I'm making for my in-laws, and yesterday I found the toughest elements — cranberries and a pumpkin. Canned pumpkin was sooo not an option — I even sent Fran to the "American" market and they don't have canned pumpkin there. Anyway, making pumpkin puree is so ridiculously easy that I was happy just to find a regular pumpkin. It seems they're getting out of season so I had to go to the neighborhood market (instead of the supermarket) to find one, but I got it! During this big scavenger hunt I even found some lemons, which I think I have mentioned before are not common here. So, my turkey can even have a lemony touch.
Dinner will be a bit late by U.S. standards. Since it's not a holiday here, I have to wait until my husband and brother-in-law are finished working. No big deal, all it means is I don't have to start cooking the turkey at the crack of dawn!
This is my third Thanksgiving with the in-laws. It's not the same as a U.S. Thanksgiving, but it's fun to share my traditions with my family. Since I'm always off work this week, it's a little project for me. My relatives have caught on well in general, although convincing them sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top are not dessert has been an uphill battle. But, I guess they like that dish! I told Fran this year I might make the sweet potatoes without marshmallows and he was not pleased by the idea. Marshmallows it is!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I hope everything turned out great with your dinner. I'm with Francisco....ya gotta have marshmallows with the yams. Brenda and I had Thanksgiving dinner at our son and daughter-in-laws house and her sister made the turkey and she injected lemon juice into the turkey when she cooked it. I'm telling you Sloane, I have never had a juicer turkey in my long and storied life. I think I went back for fourths.
