Update Soup
It's been quite the eventful week in our household, including the following:
House Hunt
This roller coaster of a home hunt is looking up somewhat. We had such a huge disappointment with this place that I couldn't really bear to write about it for awhile. Suffice to say that when we got down to the business of signing the contract, the sellers randomly decided it was no longer for sale, at least to us. They didn't ask for more money, didn't ask to change the contract — just no sale. I believe their "for sale" sign is still up, though, which makes me want to pull it down and also teepee them. But I am trying not to be vindictive.
Anyhow, we found another apartment we like and things seemed to be going well, until the owner told us she owed back condo fees and couldn't sell until she got that worked out. There was a large group meeting between us, the seller, her man and the realtors, in which two things became clear: 1. there is a good chance she will get this worked out very soon and will sell to us and 2. machismo is alive and well, and some people like to dominate conversations and not let the ladies speak. BLEH!
Ultimately, I still have hope, although I have to face the possibility that we may not be able to move before the baby comes.
Puffy
Puffy woke us up overnight a few days ago, making this strange screaming sound. Seriously, I have never heard a dog scream before, and it's not pretty. We were obviously worried and even got dressed to take her to the 24-hour emergency vet clinic. Once we got her leash out, though, she started jumping up and down and acting normal, and the screaming had stopped, so we went back to bed. The rest of the night, though, she was acting so weird — she kept trying to get on the bed, which she knows is prohibited, and she would scratch on the door but then not want to go potty. Basically she didn't sleep the whole night. So in the morning we took her to the vet. Thank God it was just an allergic reaction (something like laryngitis) and not something more serious. I told Francisco Puffy is just helping us get ready for sleepless nights with the baby. So, thanks Puffy!!
Prego
Apparently I am looking super-prego today, which is ironic considering I squeezed myself into some of my pre-pregnancy fat jeans. At least five people have commented on my largesse. What do you think?

This morning I took my glucose screen, which was about as exciting as it sounds. All day yesterday I stayed away from sugar and simple carbs, as some people told me that would help prevent a false positive. Then I fasted from evening to morning and headed to the lab. They took some blood, gave me this super-sugary orange drink and then I had to wait an hour. Then, more bloodletting! This test will tell me if I might have gestational diabetes, and I should get results next week. It's a pretty routine test, and if I have a positive, I will have to take another, longer test involving even greater quantities of sugary liquid and more bloodletting. Hopefully I will not have to do that. I mean, I really don't want to have preeclampsia AND gestational diabetes.
I guess the interesting thing to point our here is that in Mexico, things like the glucose screen and other blood tests typically don't take place in a doctor's office — instead, the doctor just tells you to get the test and you find a lab, do it, pay for it, and bring back the print-out. I am not sure why this is, but labs are everywhere. The only time I ever went to an independent lab like this in the U.S. was for a pre-employment drug test. Now it's like my second home.
Have a great weekend everybody!

Regarding your largesse, In the above picture you look like a normal, radiant pregnant woman. You don't seem unduly large to me. Admittedly I am a man and therefore pretty ignorant of most things having to do with pregnancy. However, my wife Brenda bore two children in the early years of our marriage and in both instances she gained weight as the child grew in her womb. I looked upon that as a normal result of getting pregnant and was not particularly concerned.

Beavl, this is not surprising. Whenever I wore more fitted things when I was preg, I always got the comments. Go figure. Also, you were wearing white! The least slimming color around! (not that you look un-slim, but you know what I'm saying). Incidentally, I own no white clothes.
