My expanding face-line
Well, one of my biggest pregnancy fears has come true. No, not preterm labor, getting off-balance and toppling over, horrible contractions or the infamous "ring of fire." It's funny, I spent many, many years dreading childbirth, but now that it's on the way, I apparently spend more time thinking about shallower stuff.
Years ago, I saw a CNN reporter who had become pregnant. I don't remember her name, but I remember thinking, "poor girl! her face!!" Because we all know it, some people's faces also get pregnant. Unfortunately, I am among them.
Today a sweet office lady at work told me, "your face is looking like a little doll's face!" I think that was a really, really sweet way for her to say, "your face is getting wider than it is long!!"
This is not a new development. Over the past several weeks I have tried multiple times to take profile pictures, because some of my friends far away have been asking to see the belly. Every single time, I have ended up throwing in the towel because when I turn my face to the side to pose for these pictures, I end up with that awful fatty fat neck-face convergence zone.
I am not asking for sympathy or for you to deny it. I am documenting a physiological phenomenon. And just so you don't try to deny it, here are some before and after face photos (keep in mind I thought about making the fattest possible face for the "after" picture but I was too vain and went with something minimally flattering. Even so I think you can see the difference. I mean, I even had to crop the second one differently so my face would fit.)
BTW I just googled "pregnancy fat face" and found this hilarious blog, which also pictures some celebrities with my affliction. Enjoy! It certainly made me feel better. If it happens to Catherine Zeta-Jones, it can happen to anyone.
Oh, also. Here's my 24-ish week belly. Finally:

Sloane, this was hysterical and so was the other Fat Face blog! I get fat face when I eat cheese cake; I can only imagine what I have coming to me when I get pregnant. I agree with Francisco - your after pic is digitally altered to increase the appearance of fat face.

I did not suffer so much from preg face. However, I also did not have a bump at 24 weeks, I just looked allover fatter. Consider yourself fortunate!

Dear Sloane- Having live on this planet twice as long as you have and being in the radio broadcasting field, I have met many, many pregnant ladies. They universally seem to feel bad about bad about their appearance. And I've always believed that feeling is misplaced. You're going to have a baby! Of course your going to gain weight. But Sloane, there is no one more beautiful than a pregnant woman. I'm looking at your after picture right now and I see a young lady who is filled with excitement and joy. A young woman who is experiencing the biggest adventure of her life. For centuries people have talked about that special "glow" a pregnant woman has and Sloane you've got that glow going on big time. I see it jumping off the page. You're beautiful inside and out my friend. Enjoy this very special time you're going through. God Bless.

Hilarious! You look great. Enjoy Oaxaca- it's one of my all time favorite places on earth. I hope it's as magical as I remember.
