Baby Pictures
What a week! We've gotten some bad news on the home-buying front, which I don't really want to go into right now. But, that of course is a minor setback compared to the news from our big 20-week ultrasound, which is that by all appearances The Babe is looking perfect!

We went to a special doctor for this ultrasound, someone who has special training for this sort of thing. She was really nice and really knew her way around a fetus! I had no idea just how deliberate and detailed everything was going to be. Of course we told her from the beginning that we didn't want to know the sex (Fran almost told the assistant until we figured out she was just going to help me get settled on the chair thing). But I still was scared the first thing that would flicker onto the screen would be a baby peenie or something. Definitely not so. She went through everything, from the spine to the abdomen, brain, skull, arms, legs, hands and feet. She explained everything she was looking for as she went through, and only when we got to the legs and the privates did she tell us to look away for a moment.
This was only our second ultrasound — the first was at like 8 weeks and we declined the nuchal fold test, so after so much time it was a great relief to see everything was fine with the baby. I can't imagine the bad news that nice doctor has to give people sometimes and how horrible it must be to deliver AND hear that.
The Babe was moving all around during the ultrasound and that helped me confirm that what I have been feeling are definitely fetal movements. We got to see the 4D view (upper right) at one point. That was pretty cool although the baby doesn't have much in the way of fatty deposits at the point so he or she still looks a bit like ET (hence why I did not post the straight-on face shot). No offense, baby! I am sure you will look great when we meet in person!

Sloane, after a close perusal of the ultrasound, I've concluded that the baby looks like you.

I think he/she has my nose. Or maybe all babies have my nose? Or I just have a babyish nose?

The baby looks so precious and peaceful. I love the traditional ultrasound - that's one to frame.
